Once you've picked up the basics, there are a plethora of gentle runs to progress to. A short gondola ride up the mountain is Alpe di Suisi, which offers a range of wide, easy runs, with confidence-building routes concentrated at the Al Sole and Mezdi chairlifts.
With 105km of piste suitable for intermediates, you'll never have to ski the same run twice - unless you want to, of course. A lot of blue and red runs are concentrated on the Sella Ronda circuit, but the runs at the Mont de Seura are definitely worth exploring. Head to the Alpe di Suisi for short reds and blues with stunning surroundings, or up to the Seceda sector for high-altitude slopes.
Highlights for expert skiers include the 10.5km run down from the Seceda mountain station back to Ortisei, as well as the 3km Saslong route - one of the most demanding slopes in Val Gardena. If you're craving an extra challenge, take on the Men's World Cup run from the top of the Ciampinoi gondola in St Cristina.
Ortisei has good links to the Marmolada Glacier with its fantastic intermediate and expert runs, some starting at an incredible height of 3,200m above sea level. There are also great off-pisting opportunities and an ideal heli-skiing destination. The glacier is the only one in the Dolomites section of the Alps and part of the highest mountain in the region.
