Val Thorens has lots of wide, gentle slopes for improving confidence and plenty of easy runs leading into the centre of resort. There are magic carpet lifts to help you get around the beginner area, so you don't have to worry about mastering drags.
Try the long, wide red pistes around Funitel, Grand Fond, Boismint or the Peclet glacier. High speed lifts now provide links to Mottaret and the rest of the Three Valleys, which offer endless opportunities with minimum queuing, even in high season. Be sure to explore the hidden 4th Valley of Orelle.
Expert skiers will relish the sheer volume of challenges on offer. From the fabulous powder snow on the Glaciers of Peclet and Chavière, the world-class mogul-bashing on the long, steep Cîme de Caron black run, and the infamous Couloirs of Courchevel.
The Glacier de Peclet, located in the Vanoise massif, reaches a incredible height of 3,561m and is renowned for its off-piste opportunities. Accessed from the Cime de Caron, the west-facing and sunny groomed runs are more suitable for confident intermediates and experts.
Off-piste fanatics will be in heaven in Val Thorens. Surrounded by six glaciers, the area has endless fields of powder snow and breathtaking views. Tracks start from several of the peaks, including the popular route, The Pierre Lory, that starts from the top of the Col chairlift and ends up deep in the Maurienne Valley. There is also easily accessible freeriding in both the Val Thorens bowl and above neighbouring Orelle, too. If you want to explore further, we recommend joining an off-piste tour - the guides will take you on an uphill hike to find untouched snow and deserted descents.
Part of the largest linked ski area in the world, and one of the highest and most snowsure resorts in the Three Valleys, there's no chance of you running out of new places to explore in Val Thorens. The terrain is accessible for all types of rider, whether you're carving down the wide, open pistes, throwing yourself down an exhilarating boardercross courses or flying through the air at one of many snowparks. If you're into freeriding, there's plenty of off-piste opportunities, too. The Snowpark, on the Plateaux sector, is packed full of tables, rails and boxes, and even an airbag. And, if you're not confident enough for the snowparks, there's the Fun Slope – a 900m course dotted with 50 obstacles that make you use all of your senses.
