A quiet resort with great beginning and intermediate skiing, and a range of accommodation.
- One of the largest ski areas in Finland, with over 60 slopes and the country's longest run at 3km.
- Winter wonderland beauty – ski through frozen trees or see local wildlife on a snow safari.
- Very popular with families due to the range of activities available and high-quality accommodation.
The ski area is one of the largest in Finland, with 50km of slopes that are particularly excellent for beginners and intermediates. The English-speaking ski instructors are eager to help you take your first slide down the mountain. And the wide runs give you plenty of space to practise. For more confident skiers, Ylläs has the longest runs in Finland, and the snow conditions are a dream. Plus, lots of the slopes are floodlit so you can ski well past sunset.
Activities-wise, there's everything from ice fishing and Northern Lights safaris to snowshoeing and reindeer expeditions. And if you’re here at the right time of the year, you can pay a visit to Santa.
The villages of Ylläsjärvi and Akäslompolo are both unassuming in nature but have a range of bars and restaurants, and a regular ski bus to the lifts, that you can use for free if you upgrade your lift pass. Add to that a great variety of hotels, apartments and traditional log cabins – and stunning natural terrain – and you have a winning winter resort.
