An abundance of snow for skiing and Arctic activities, in a true winter wonderland.
- One of the largest beginners' ski area in Finland.
- Loads of activities, like reindeer herding and cross country skiing.
- Traditional cabins based around a family-oriented, pedestrianised village.
- Voted Finlands' Best Ski Resort in the World Ski Awards for 2013, 2014 and 2016.
The 24km slopes are quiet – even late in the afternoon you can take your pick of freshly-groomed runs. And the lifts stay open late, so you don’t have to take a day off from skiing if you want to try other activities. For the more adventurous skier or snowboarder, there are two snow parks, a superpipe and a freestyle centre. When you need a break, head to one of the wooden huts around the slopes and warm up in front of an open fire.
What's more, for Winter 2018/19, there'll be two brand-new lifts – the Village2Valley gondola that's replacing the Kuru chairlift, and the VillageExpress chairlift. On top of that, there's a new slope between the FIS slope and Front slope 1, as well as a totally renewed Family Park.
As well as the skiing, you can take your pick from a long list of activities. Finland is the home of Santa and a visit to his secret cottage is a must. Other popular activities include dog sledding, snowmobiling and reindeer sleigh rides. All the activities start in the village centre and you get your thermal suits and boots thrown in. There are activity packs that include a selection of our most popular activities, or you can mix and match to create your perfect holiday.
In Ruka centre, at the base of the main slopes, and you’ll find bars, restaurants and good quality hotels within a stone’s throw of the lifts. Just outside the village centre are traditional log cabins, with wood fires and private saunas.
