Ski Holiday checklist – what should I pack?
You’ve booked your ski holiday, the countdown is on and you’re already imagining crunching through the snow – now you just need to pack. Whether you’re a folder, roller or squeeze-it-all-in-er, here are some handy pointers to help you get ready for your trip...
Picking the right kind of luggage is key for a holiday in the mountains – suitcases or bags with wheels can get stuck in the snow, so choose something with handles that you can carry over snowy ground. And make sure you stick to your luggage allowance.
Top tip: Take a waterproof bag to put your ski gear in for the journey home, just in case it’s a bit damp. That way it won’t get the rest of your luggage wet too.

- Only take what you need.
- Roll your clothes to take up less room than folding them.
- Stuff your socks into your shoes or ski helmet (if you’re taking your own) to save space.
- Use vacuum bags that you can squeeze the air out of to fit more in.
Wear something warm and comfy for the flight, and make sure you’ve got a coat or ski jacket to put on when you get there. And choose sturdy shoes that won’t slip on snowy ground.
Staying warm is all about layers, so take plenty of long-sleeved thermal tops and leggings, as well as thin fleeces or wool jumpers, to wear under your ski jacket and salopettes. You can also take some casual, comfy clothes for when you’re not skiing, like jeans, jumpers and waterproof shoes or boots. And remember your swimming costume too – lots of resorts and accommodations have pools.
- Put some snacks in your ski jacket pocket to keep you going between meals.
- Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
- Take lunch later so you can make the most of quieter slopes when everyone else is eating.
- Always wear sun cream, lip balm and goggles or sunglasses to protect your skin and eyes.
