Desperate to get back on the slopes? Struggling to make a decision on where to go with your hard-earned holiday savings? No worries, we’re here to help. Welcome to Resort Spotlight.
First up: Heavenly, Lake Tahoe – USA.
Where Is It?
Heavenly sits slap-bang on the state line between California and Nevada, giving the resort a unique personality and atmosphere. And it;s not just the atmosphere that’s got two distinct parts two it. The scenery around Heavenly is a sight to behold, with mountains and stunningly blue lake views at stark contrast with the flatness of the distant Nevada desert. Wow.
What Are The Highlights?
Whether you’re after a chilled-out Californian getaway or a lively Las Vegas casino crawl, Heavenly has something to suit your tastes.
Heavenly is part of the larger South Lake Tahoe city where you’ll find a multitude of hotels, restaurants, nightlife and activities to keep you busy throughout your stay – including Heavenly’s self-proclaimed high-octane apres-ski scene.
The skiing is also outrageously good. See below.
What’s The Skiing Like?
Head up the Heavenly Gondola and dive into 4,800 acres of high-altitude terrain, all of which sits comfortably at more than 2000m above sea level.
Once you’re clipped in, you’re free to explore both sides of the mountain – California offers steeper slopes lower down the mountain while Nevada is a haven for intermediates. Everyone will love the glades, terrain parks and back-country-like canyons – experts should try out the powder in the open terrain of the Milky Way Bowl.
Despite high altitudes, temperatures in Lake Tahoe and Heavenly are regulated by the Pacific Ocean, which means that you get all the fluffy dry powder you associate with North America, without the freezing temperatures you’d experience in some Canadian resorts. This all helps make your days and nights that bit more pleasant – both on and off the mountain.
Who’s It For?
We could tell you that their snow record rivals some of the biggest and snowiest resorts in the world. We could talk about the fact that Heavenly is quite possibly the closest thing anywhere that you will get to a full-blown Las Vegas experience in a ski resort. But why not just check out their end-of-season film and decide for yourself?
