BEST SKI FILMS OF ALL TIME

Nothing gets us in the mood for the slopes quite like watching a ski or snowboard film. So we’ve picked our top five – a mix of feel-good Hollywood blockbusters and awe-inspiring documentaries from the pros.

Eddie The Eagle

Nominated for the Empire Award for Best British Film, 2016’s Eddie The Eagle is definitely one to watch. Starring Hugh Jackman and Taron Egerton, this comedy follows Eddie in his quest to compete in the Winter Olympics. Will he make the British team and bring home a medal?

That’s It That’s All

This documentary film shows freestyle snowboarding legends Travis Rice, Jeremy Jones and John Jackson pushing the sport to its limits on their adventures across the mountains of New Zealand, Tokyo and Canada. Produced by Red Bull and Quicksilver, you’ll be glued to the screen as you watch and wonder how they pulled off each jump and trick.

Claim

This award-winning production is the last film to star legendary skier Shane McConkey. The mega mix of clips shows his team poking fun at themselves, and at the ski industry as a whole. Watch them jump, spin, flip and fly as they try out their tricks in the best powder they can find. Highlights include moves by 15-year-old Sean Pettit, an impressive return to Alaska and a speed riding session in Chamonix.

James Bond

Bond is known for epic chase scenes, using everything from cars to skis to escape from the bad guys. In The World Is Not Enough, Pierce Brosnan and his Bond girl get caught in a ski race in the Caucasus Mountains – actually filmed in Chamonix. Sixteen years later, Daniel Craig returns to the mountains in Spectre, with scenes set in the Tyrol region and Sölden’s IceQ restaurant.

The Art Of Flights

Considered one of the greatest ski films ever made, this cutting-edge documentary shows some of the best freestyle snowboarding captured on film. It’s 1 hour 17 minutes of jaw-dropping footage, beautiful, remote scenery and a heart-pounding soundtrack.
