Did you know that your skiing day doesn’t have to end when the last lift closes at 5ish? Moonlight skiing is a fantastic way to make the most of a day’s skiing as well as being a truly exhilarating experience. We have done our research and brought you a selection of the best places in Europe to hit the slopes at night. Whether you are looking for a fine dining experience or just some fun to finish an action-packed day on the slopes then there are some brilliant options across European ski resorts.
The largest ski area in Spain, Formigal has recently launched a monthly Moon Light Skiing event. Moon light skiing is open to everyone, you can ski down the Rio run as many times as possible before meeting up as a group for a glass of vino caliente (mulled wine). Once you are nicely refreshed you will head up the slope for one last time to then ski down in complete darkness with only a hand-held torch for guidance. This is about as exhilarating as it gets and those who have done it always reflect that it is the most memorable part of their trip. You can also enjoy a cheeky glass of champagne and some live music once you get to the bottom of the mountain.
Les Arcs, France
If you fancy combining night skiing with a delicious dinner then head to the ski resort of Les Arcs, France. Already one of France’s premier ski resorts, Les Arcs also offers a premier night skiing experience – Torchlight Descent.
After a hard day’s skiing you stay on the mountain and make for the impressive Arpette restaurant where you enjoy an early supper – a 2 course meal of Savoyard salad and then your choice of delicious Fondue/Raclette or Hot Rocks. A 50cl bottle of vino per person is also included in the price of the Torchlight Descent experience which goes down very nicely indeed.
Once you have enjoyed your dinner, the party really starts. More drinks and dancing are the order of the evening in the restaurant’s lounge area. You will then get on the slopes to enjoy the torch lit run. As anyone who has done it will know, you won’t forget this ski experience in a hurry and we found that it was a briliant end to the night. We were also surprised by how many people would be keen to do it again once they had done it, a lot of people we met said they came back every year. So watch out, night skiing is addictive!
The Torchlight Descent experience in Les Arcs, France costs £38-£40 per person and can be booked as part of your French ski holiday.
Sauze D’Oulx, Italy

The time then comes to make your descent down the mountain by torchlight.
