Itching to get to the mountains, but tight on time? Snap up a short ski break to Switzerland and enjoy a few days skiing Swiss slopes and exploring chocolate-box alpine villages.
HOW DO SHORT SKI BREAKS WORK?
Head off mid-week or over the weekend for three or four days’ skiing. You’ll fly direct to Geneva or Zurich, and our team will meet you at the airport to help you get on your way. Transfers in Switzerland are by train, with three to four changes depending on the schedule – so sit back and take in the views from the comfort of your carriage. And don’t forget to add lift passes and equipment hire when you book, so everything’s ready when you arrive.
Best resorts for a short ski break in Switzerland
Take your pick from two of Switzerland’s top ski resorts – they’re home to famous mountains, snowsure slopes and high-quality hotels where the service and food are top-notch.
Wengen shares its 210km ski area with neighbouring Grindelwald. And with mainly blues and easy reds, it’s ideal for intermediates wanting to spend a couple of days racking up the miles. Or for more of a challenge, don’t miss ticking off the world’s longest World Cup downhill course, the 4.48km Lauberhorn.
The village is peaceful and traditional, and the only way to get there is by train – so it’s just right if you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Like to stay active during your off-slope hours? Have a go on the giant zipline or take a trip on Europe’s highest railway to see the ice palace at the top of the Jungfraujoch.
This compact ski area’s all about quality over quantity, and packs in plenty to challenge intermediates and advanced skiers. There are steep reds and blacks, icy mogul fields and 2,000m of vertical drop from the glacier down to valley, to test the strongest ski legs. But with its great snow record and wide-open powder fields just metres from the lifts, it’s the off-piste that’s the star attraction here.
A working mountain town, Engelberg’s laid-back during the week – so if you’re eager to make the most of your après hours, time your visit for the weekend when the locals come to play.
