The debate surrounding ski helmets hit a peak last year when actress Natasha Richardson died as a result of a skiing accident. She wasn’t wearing a helmet and was only skiing on the beginner slopes of the Mont Tremblant resort in Quebec. Richardson’s death joined several other publicised ski deaths involving skiers not wearing helmets, leading to the legalities of ski helmets being headline news again.
With many European ski resorts now making it a legal requirement for children to wear a ski helmet, we ask – should all skiers be required to wear a ski helmet while on the slopes? Many skiers and snowboarders will argue that it is their own safety and therefore their own choice but should the laws be changed?
