Learn how to control your speed on the mountain, so you can stay safe and ski with confidence.
[00:00:11] If you’re struggling with controlling your speed, chances are it’s a lot to do with the shape of your turn. Ideally, what you want is a nice, smooth S-shaped turn rather than a zig-zag.
[00:00:24] Now, I’m going to say this sentence – slow down to turn, don’t turn to slow down. So what that means is, before I actually point my skis down the hill, which is gonna make me go faster, I’ve slowed down. I’m prepared for the inevitable speeding up as I point my skis downhill. So many skiers rush the turn – try and get the skis from there to there as quick as possible, and then put a straight line in. While they’re going across in a straight line, they’re actually getting faster. And then, as they start the new turn, more acceleration and then a very sharp break. Try and replace that with a gentle slowing down so the brake comes at the end of the turn, setting you up for the new one. Slow down to turn, don’t turn to slow down.
