There are two nursery slopes on which to gain your confidence, one in La Trinite, the other in Stafal. Gain more confidence and improve your technique on the blue Castore run from the Gabiet-Lago area above Stafal. Generally though, the resort is reds and blacks, so more suited to intermediate and advanced skiers.
Gressoney and its neighbouring valley Ayas is ideal for polishing up skiing techniques on the long and varied runs amidst the spectacular scenery of the Monte Rosa mountain chain. From the Punta Jolanda chairlift the runs are interconnected and include a long black run down to Stafal.
This area offers fantastic opportunities for the advanced skier extending from the awesome range of runs to the chance of excellent off-piste skiing. The Monte Rosa area is now rated one of the best in Europe.
Rack up your mileage with a Ski Away-day to Pila. Just a 1 hour and 15-minute bus ride away from Gressoney, you’ll have access to slopes for all abilities with some lovely, long tree-lined runs to try out. You’ll also get some excellent snow – the resort is in a bowl shape, which protects it from bad winds – as well as catching some pretty amazing views over 4 of the highest peaks in the Alps. With your Monterosa Area lift pass, you get 1 free days skiing in Pila. If you have a local lift pass, you can purchase an upgrade from the Pila Lift Pass Office. The buses will drop you off in Aosta city, where you can catch the ‘Pila Ski in the Sky’ gondola up the mountain. This excursion is also suitable for non-skiers who can explore the city of Aosta instead. Speak to your rep for more details.
For great cross-country skiing in the Valle d'Aosta, Gressoney is the place to be. Gressoney St Jean is known for its wonderful woodland tracks, while the trails around the cross-country ski school are famous for being open in the evenings. Every trail is graded according to difficulty, so whether you're a beginner or an enthusiast, you'll find skiing to suit you. The tracks aren't free to use, but can be accessed for a small charge.
Gressoney, and its neighbour Champoluc, are fabulous when it comes to off-pisting. Steep, narrrow gullies, backcountry routes and large mountain faces come together to make a off-piste playground for advanced skiers. Both resorts are also linked to the south-facing resort of Alagna, which has been voted one of the Top 5 resorts for backcountry skiing in recent years. If you'd rather stay locally, then the Punta Indren gondola offers a whole range of opportunities closer to the groomed pistes.
