Germany is famous for its excellent selection of beers and rightly so.
So what's it like?
Beautiful scenery, relaxing spas and delightful towns and cities are standard all across Germany. Our focus here is in southern Bavaria - among the Bayern Alps. It's a little known destination for winter sports fans - though keen hikers, cross-country skiers and beer lovers in the know have been making the most of the fantastic destinations on offer for goodness knows how long.
If downhill skiing is your cup of tea then there's some fantastic ski areas with uncrowded pistes. And with many northern facing slopes, plus German efficiency, they manage to keep the snow in great condition all season long. If you prefer to stay lower down you could try out cross-country skiing (langlauf) through forests and by scenic lakes, biathlon with Olympic gold medalists or some of the other fun activities you won't find many other places including piste-basher driving and fatbiking.
Sightseers love the region and a stay in Bavaria is perfect for discovering much more of southern Germany. Visit some of Bavaria's world-famous sights including its capital Munich, scenic Berchtesgaden and the crystal clear lakes of Königsee and Chiemsee - although at this time of year they may be a little bit frozen. It's also perfectly placed for nipping over the border to Austria for exploring the cultural city of Salzburg and more.
