Beginners will enjoy Samoëns 1600, where you'll find dedicated children's snow gardens and specially designated areas for adults. This area is easily accessible and also has a mountain restaurant, so you won't need to venture too far for lunch.
The range of skiing for intermediates is first class, with an extensive lift system and huge choice of challenging pistes. The red slopes in the Flaine bowl are perfect for improving your skills, whilst the runs leading to the neighbouring resorts follow narrow tree-lined trails. From long motorway cruising to mogul fields, there is plenty to keep you occupied.
Experts can take advantage of the infinite off-piste trails, particularly in the Gers and Flaine bowls, as well as the challenging and taxing black runs throughout the Grand Massif area. The Diamond Noir is popular for its mogul sections, and the Onyx run, 2km long, is said to be the most difficult slope in the area. The upper pistes on the Tête des Saix are pretty testing, too.
There are two main areas in Samoens that offer cross-country skiing - the Giffre Valley and the Joux Plane Pass. Classic and skating styles are encouraged in both and all abilities are catered for. The Joux Plane pass is located at 1,700m and has fantastic snow as well as amazing views of the Giffre Valley and the Mont Blanc. Trails in Samoens are accessible for a small charge.
