Novice skiers will love the wide, gentle nursery slopes close to the village centre serviced by free beginners lifts, so you won't need to buy a lift pass for your first day. The two ski schools offer expert, friendly tuition, too, so you will soon be tackling some of the easy green and blue runs in the bowl-like ski area in no time.
The range of skiing for intermediates is first class, with an extensive lift system and huge choice of challenging pistes. The red slopes in the Flaine bowl are perfect for improving your skills, whilst the runs leading to the neighbouring resorts follow narrow tree-lined trails. From long motorway cruising to mogul fields, there is plenty to keep you occupied.
Expert skiers will relish the endless off-piste trails, on top of 265km of pisted runs. Taxing black runs include the Diamond Noir, Styx and the wooded run down to Samoëns, and there's plenty of off-piste in the Gers Bowl.
The cross-country trails in Flaine can be accessed using a free shuttle bus in resort. The tracks cater for both classic and skater-style skiers and include a good few high-altitude trails - said to be the highest and snowiest trails in the Alps.
You'll be well-catered for in Flaine when it comes to off-piste. The Gers Bowl is a playground for expert skiers, while the Corbalanche freeski zone is an excellent arena for learning the craft. Another great option is the large off-piste area between the Grandes Platieres and Lindars gondolas.
