Alpe d'Huez is renowned as one of the sunniest resorts in the Alps, often meaning you'll have great conditions and visibility as you venture out onto the slopes for the first time. The well-regarded ski school will provide the essential basics, while the nursery slopes and lifts have been carefully planned to ensure progress is swift and easy. As you improve, you'll head higher up the mountain onto unbeatably wide and gentle runs, with spectacular surroundings for you to enjoy.
The variety of skiing is excellent and the consistently good conditions are hard to match. Fearless intermediates should enjoy most of the super-long black runs from Pic Blanc and there are some lovely long runs down to Oz and Vaujany. Most intermediates would be working very hard to cover all areas of Alpe d'Huez in a week.
Ideal for experts as you'll find some of the most testing terrain in France, including La Sarenne, one of the longest blacks in Europe, and the notorious Tunnel Run. The resort also offers many off-piste options for the more advanced skier or boarder.
Accessible from the centre of resort, the Sarenne Glacier, located at 3,300m altitude, is a haven for those skiers and riders looking for an extra challenge. It boasts a choice of black and red runs - so not for the faint hearted - and even the extremely long, 16km Sarenne run which brings you all the way back into resort.
Rack up your mileage with a Ski Away-day to Les Deux Alpes. Just a 40-minute bus ride away from Alpe d’Huez, you’ll get to play in one of the best snowparks in Europe, experience the amazing snow on the Mont de Lans glacier and test out the variety of excellent off-piste. With your Alpe d’Huez 6-day lift pass, you get 2 free days to let loose on these fabulous mountains to slide, carve or freestyle to your heart’s content. Speak to your rep for more details.
For off-piste in Alpe d'Huez, you'll have to go to La Grave. It's a must for thrill seekers with plenty of coulouirs. In Oz, on each side of the Poutran red run, are loads of great deep-snow opportunities, while in Vaujany, an off-piste run called Roche Melon descends through the trees to join a blue run called Vaujaniate.
