What’s it like?
With 650km of slopes, Portes du Soleil offers some of the best skiing in France and Switzerland.
The two main resorts are Morzine and Avoriaz. Although both offer a great array of skiing in their own right, getting a Portes du Soleil area pass allows you to experience the full extent of this enormous linked ski area. The modern resort of Avoriaz is a great pick for families due to being traffic free and having many properties that offer ski-in ski-out access. In contrast, Morzine is a picturesque town with lots of character, offering an excellent après scene and plenty of off the slope activities.
A modern resort, set above Morzine at an altitude of 1800m, Avoriaz has great views over the surrounding mountains and down into the valleys. With many of the properties in Avoriaz offering ski-in ski-out access, skiing with children is made easier. Combine this with the resort being totally pedestrianised, nursery slopes on the doorstep and the off the piste activities, it makes a great choice for families. As well as the 2000m2 indoor water park, Aquariaz, there are opportunities for ice-skating, sleigh rides and snowshoeing.
The picturesque town of Morzine combines excellent skiing with a fantastic après scene, making it an ideal choice for groups. With access to 650km of piste, the skiing opportunities are endless. Off the slopes, non-skiers can enjoy exploring the shops and boutiques or trying out one of the many activities on offer.
With easy access to nursery slopes and a good range of off the piste activities, the compact resort of Les Gets is a great choice for family ski holidays. Most of the resort facilities are close to the main lift station and there is a bus to get around the village, as well as to the resort of Morzine. Nightlife in Les Gets is centred around the good choice of bars and restaurants on the main street and additionally there is a popular outdoor ice rink which can be enjoyed by all.
