About the Ski Fest
The Ski Challenge is back for its sixth year, bigger and better than ever before and with a new name to match! Newly-dubbed the Crystal Ski Fest for 2010, the authentic ski event programme returns along with some fantastic new additions and promises to be the highlight of the coming ski season.
The established week-long programme of training and competitions is enhanced this year with the introduction of tuition for beginner skiers, so even more people can get in on the action. Olympians Sir Steve Redgrave and Ben Hunt-Davis will be joining us for the week again, and we've heard rumours that they're already in training!
During the days, the British Ski Academy, the British Academy of Ski Instructors and Disability Snowsports UK will run a full programme of training sessions and competition events for everyone from beginners and improvers to experts and adaptive skiers. In the evenings a superb calendar of lively après means after you work hard, you can play hard.
About Sestriere
Sestriere gained international renown during February 1997 when it hosted the World Cup Ski Races and it was selected to host the 2006 Winter Olympics.
Now an international resort, it is part of the famous 'Milky Way' ski circuit
About the Milky Way ski area
A magnificent area with over 400kms of pistes with excellent skiing for all grades in spectacular scenery.
Beginners slopes: most of the beginners slopes fan out in an arc from the ski school meeting place in the centre of Sestriere with easy runs from the two beginner lifts and the Jolly with two further drag lifts, ideal for first timers.
Intermediate slopes: for intermediates, the skiing is on two main areas, Banchetta and Sises, offering plenty of choice from short mogul fields to long wide runs for cruising. An added bonus to the 21 lifts in the immediate Sestriere area is the amazing 89 lifts on the extensive Milky Way.
Expert slopes: the huge bowl of the Amfiteatro offers excellent skiing and the black runs at the top of Motta and Sises provide the expert with plenty of skiing. The famous Kandahar Slalom and Kandahar Banchetta runs are used in World Championship races.
