So what's it like?
Abundance of snow for skiing and Arctic activities
Ruka was voted Finland's Best Ski Resort in the World Ski Awards 2013 and is perfect for both beginner and intermediate skiers. It is home to Finland’s largest dedicated beginner area and has excellent grooming if you want to practice your technique on the slopes. As well as skiing, there are lots of activities available from snowmobiling, to husky sledding to reindeer rides. You can even visit Santa in his secret cottage, which is great for the children. After dark, the blue polar lights create a unique atmosphere and some have even seen the Northern Lights here.
€75 hotel credit
There'll be a credit of €75 waiting for you at the hotel with this offer. Use it in the bar or restaurant and save some cash while you're away.
Ruka has the largest dedicated beginner ski area in Finland and the quiet slopes make it ideal for learners. The Rosa and Rudolf snow park in Vuosseli has three magic carpets and is great fun for children and adults. Book a first time ski or board package and the instructors, who speak excellent English, should have you skiing most of the runs by the end of the week.
All ski/board tuition takes place in the morning, allowing you to enjoy one of the many activities on offer in the afternoons.
Grooming is excellent in Ruka and the resort is ideal for intermmediate skiers looking to improve their technique. There are no lift queues and plenty of tree lined runs to ski. You will particularly enjoy the challenges of the red runs on the western side of the mountain.
Expert skiers will enjoy the steeper red slopes and black runs on the north and western side of the mountain. There is also a freestyle area, mogul field and some exciting off-piste through the trees. The men's World Cup for Freestyle skiing was held in Ruka in December 2010.
When it comes to having a good time, the Finns know how to party and après ski is often a lively affair, with plenty of music.
Try the Hotel Rukahovi's après ski bar or the Colorado bar.
