Disability Snowsport UK

Disability Snowsport is the UK's leading charity in providing access to adaptive skiing and snowboarding for people with disabilities. To take part in a sport such as skiing or snowboarding there are numerous barriers to overcome, including access to slopes, access to specialist equipment and one to one instruction. The charity aims to give people with disabilities access to snow sports at a cost equivalent to that which an able-bodied person would pay.

  • Disability Snowsport UK Activities

DSUK instructors and volunteers have enabled thousands of individuals of all ages with any form of disability, from learning difficulties and autism to physical disabilities, to enjoy the thrills of the slopes throughout the UK and abroad.

Each year DSUK organise overseas activity weeks which cover a host of countries across Europe, the USA and North America, including resorts such as Breckenridge (USA), Niederau & Mayrhofen (Austria), Villars (Swiss Alps), Soldeu (Andorra) and La Plagne (France). The activity weeks provide an opportunity for those with disabilities to realise their potential.

DSUK also have local groups throughout the UK providing disabled skiing for those who are unable to travel abroad. Access is all year round on artificial slopes and indoor snozones. For more information about groups meeting in the UK, check out the Local Groups page on the DSUK website or contact sophiewood@disabilitysnowsport.org.uk.

  • Proud to be working with Disability Snowsport UK

In conjunction with DSUK, Crystal Ski will use its power as the No. 1 tour operator in Europe to increase awareness of disabled skiing and snowboarding, as well as improving access and offering practical on-site assistance for disabled skiers.

To mark the beginning of the new relationship, Sir Steve Redgrave led a team of brave ski enthusiasts into the skies on 10th July 2009, for a charity sky dive with the world-famous Red Devils parachute display team. Consisting of 25 fundraisers, including DSUK's CEO Fiona Young, Sir Steve Redgrave, Crystal Ski's MD Mathew Prior and Product Director Ian Davis, a total of £17,000 has been raised so far. If you would like to make a donation to DSUK, please visit the justgiving.com. To see how the sky dive went, check out our interview with Ian Davis at our ski blog, Ski Buzz.
