Valmorel is undoubtedly one of the finest family ski resorts in France. The Piou Piou children's village run by the ESF, offers a crèche for children aged 18 months-2 years, with a choice of imaginatively designed playrooms and a sleep room. For 3-6 year olds the Piou Piou club provides the perfect opportunity for them to take their first steps, or slides, in their skiing career. The ski kindergaten is in a fenced off area, it has a magic carpet and a number of fun obstacles to entertain and familiarise the children with sking in a fun and safe environment. There are a variety of options available for both the crèche and the ski kindergarten, mornings and afternoons can be booked with or without lunch, or there is a whole day option. The Piou Piou children's village is open Sun-Fri 8.45am-5.30pm and can be pre-booked. Valmorel is an ideal resort for beginners with many English speaking instructors at the ski school and our superb value First Time packages. There are 15 acres of piste exclusively reserved for beginners in the ski school. Gentle, tree-lined runs leading back to the resort are perfect for building up confidence at the same time as enjoying spectacular mountain scenery.
The Altispace 4-man chairlift will give you fast access to the skiing from the village. Excursions can be made across to the villages of St. François, Longchamp or Doucy for lunch and you can still make it back in time for a couple of red runs down the Gollet before the lifts close.
Often underrated by British skiers looking for more challenging terrain, Valmorel offers a number of testing black descents. These include the Riondet and the steep Mottet run with its hair-raising moguls to test your skills as soon as you get off the chairlift. For off-piste enthusiasts, there are literally miles of wonderful powder, to be skied for many days after fresh snowfall, with mind-blowing couloirs and steep faces to challenge even the professionals.
Valmorel offers some great piste riding and is a superb place for beginners to introduce themselves to the sport. The area has an abundance of mellow pistes. For freeriding head for the Mottet chair and the black runs. This is a great place to master basic techniques with plenty of off-piste powder to find. There is also a board park at the top of the Pierrafort cable car.
