some great tree runs and uncrowded bowls to explore
Serre Chevalier ski resort has over 250km of runs, an efficient lift system and yet manages to avoid being as crowded as its more illustrious cousins. For those who want to try something different, this large ski area offers accommodation in traditional villages filled with character, our properties are located in Chantemerle and Villeneuve. The locals are renowned for giving a warm Southern Alp welcome, something skiers in other parts of France aren’t always used to. The slopes are varied with lots of skiing in sunshine as well as wooded runs to head for if the weather turns bad. If you want something a little different that still guarantees great skiing, comfortable accommodation and a traditional French atmosphere, Serre Chevalier is for you.
Relaxed and informal with a number of popular bars to choose from. Visit the lively Le Frog and Loco Loco bars, both have excellent music. Good night clubs include La Baita and Bam Bam.

There are excellent gentle beginners' runs next to Villeneuve village and also at Monetier. Try the Grand Alpe at the top of the gondola above Chantemerle.
Ski through the Parc National des Ecrins in some of the most glorious scenery in the French Alps, including the long red runs from the Prorel, Aiguillet and Eduits. At Bachas above Monetier, you'll find a wide choice of runs which zig-zag through the trees and Le Petit Alpe, Bois des Coqs and Grande Gargouille above Monetier are firm favourites for getting the adrenalin going. To end a day, Cucumelle is a fantastic long run back to Villeneuve from Bachas.
Bump fiends will enjoy moguls the size of milk-floats on the twisting runs to Le Bez and speed freaks will love the superb 'Olympic Luc Alphand' black run. Also recommended is the locally named 'Porridge Run', a gun-barrelled kamikaze route through gullies, ravines and trees; while for powderhounds, there's the steep and deep ecstasy of high Grande Alpe.
Serre Chevalier is regarded as one of the top snowboarding destinations in France due to its amazing natural terrain and off-piste opportunities. For freeriding there is too much to mention but check out the Balme chair. For jumping, the mountain is littered with natural kickers and drops.
