Risoul ski resort

Snow Range

1650-2750m

an attractive, modern village with a huge shared ski area

Risoul ski resort is linked with Vars, part of La Forêt Blanche, one of the largest ski areas in the Southern French Alps. With high altitude skiing, the area boasts a good snow record, as well as lots of sunshine. The slopes are generally uncrowded and there are a large variety of gentle slopes, more challenging pistes, as well as an abundance of off-piste possibilities. The ski area offers a lot of good freeriding for snowboarders and also boasts an excellent snowboard park. The resort is compact and purpose built, yet still attractive, with numerous traditional chalet-style buildings, in a lovely woodland setting and a genuine French atmosphere. The busy main street has a small range of shops, bars and restaurants. Risoul is a good resort for families and the ski school operates a ski kindergarten.

The slopes

Beginners

(Crystal rating 4)

Risoul and Vars are ideal for first-time skiers with wide sunny nursery slopes and gentle tree-lined runs. In Risoul the beginners area is easily reached by 'bucket-lift' and there is a specially fenced off area and children's ski area. In Vars there is also a children's nursery slope with a 'magic-carpet' lift and easy slope for adults.

Intermediates

(Crystal rating 4)

This sensational ski area offers a huge variety of runs to test the skills of every skier. From the pretty, tree-lined runs back to the villages, to the scenic snow bowls above Risoul, the well-linked lift system provides a wealth of cruising runs. Vars offers an even wider variety of challenging pistes and the Crystal Ski Escort based in Risoul will help you to get the most from the ski area.

Advanced

(Crystal rating 3)

There are a number of black runs to challenge the most seasoned skier, as well as many great mogul fields on the plunging runs down to Vars. The toughest pistes can be found on the Vars side of the Crête des Chabrières, while Risoul provides plenty of great off-piste opportunities amongst the lower wooded areas and the higher snow bowls.

Snowboarding

(Crystal rating 5)

Risoul and Vars offer impressive snowboarding facilities. In addition to the 180kms of pistes, there is an excellent snowboard park in Vars under the TS Crevoux chair lift. Surf land in Risoul features an Olympic sized half-pipe, whilst the Espace Freestyle park might suit those looking to make their first jumps.
