Resort Information
Kitzbühel Ski Area offers nearly 170km of runs across the main area and the smaller Kitzbühelerhorn area. Since the addition of the spectacular tricable gondola, 3S Bahn, the Hahnenkamm/ Pangelstein and Jochberg/ Resterhöhe are linked together, giving fluid access to the whole extensive ski area. The ski area is world famous and has been one of the top Austrian ski resorts for so many years. In January this year the 67th Hahnenkamm race weekend was held, attracting racers, press and spectators from all over the world.
Kitzbühel itself is the largest of the resorts in the ski area. It has a historical centre and boasts a collection of stylish boutiques, a casino and a whole variety of bars and restaurants. Kirchberg is also a lively resort, popular with many European nationalities. Kirchberg also has the bonus of being located next to the Ski Welt area - so with the right lift pass you can ski the Kitzbühel Ski Area and the Ski Welt (Westendorf, and on into Söll, Scheffau and Ellmau) if you're keen! To the south of Kitzbühel there are a number of smaller villages which attract people looking to enjoy the fantastic ski area from a quieter setting. The Hotel Tirolerhof is approx. 2km from Kitzbühel centre in a rural location. A ski bus stops nearby to take you into Kitzbühel to ski. In the evenings the hotel also offers a shuttle service into Kitzbühel (see hotel description - Hotel Tirolerhof, Kitzbühel). The centre of the village of Aurach is approx. 2km further along the valley where the road starts to climb higher towards the pass of 'Pass Thurn'. When staying in Aurach you have the convenience of a selection of local amenities including a bank/cash machine, a supermarket and a number of bars and restaurants (most are in other hotels and guesthouses). You also have the convenience of the regular ski bus (free with your lift pass) that runs through Aurach from early in the morning until approx. 6.00pm. As well as taking you to Kitzbühel it can also take you the other direction, to Jochberg and Pass Thurn, so that you can really make the most of the area!
