Customer reviews of Valmorel ( France)

Valmorel is an ideal family resort, with a traffic free village centre and doorstep skiing from all areas. For beginners there is a dedicated nursery area right by the village, and intermediates have a good choice of easy slopes at high altitude with 152km of wonderfully groomed pistes. The resort itself is purpose built, yet one of the prettiest of modern resorts. Off the slopes the après ski is low key with bars and restaurants offering good value and a welcoming atmosphere.

Quiet, friendly, excellent 'cruise the blues', a number of more challenging reds and a few blacks. If you're after the off piste then there is plenty to choose from but get up early after snowfall as it soon gets tracked out! Valmorel village is well thought out, actually looks nice (unlike many french resorts) and you should find a lift / ski slope really close to your accommodation. Excellent resturants - some with stunning views of the valley -try them all, we did. Some lifts are a bit slow but if you plan your route a bit then you can get near enough everywhere on nice fast chairs. Good to see on slope loos and little tins to take away (as ashtrays) for anyone who really must smoke on the slopes. I counted 3 Supermarkets and 2 cashpoints. Getting around the village will usually involve the Telebourg cablecar shuttle - It is free after the main lifts close on friday pm until sat evening - otherwise don't forget your liftpass in the evening! A small market is near the Telebourg mid-station on Fridays so is ideal for cheese / sausage to take home! The best bit - very french and very few british. So get out there!

The resort was excellent. Beautiful clusters of chalets with skiing around them.Plenty of snow and for this particular week, lots of sunshine too. Booked Learn to ski package - was in group of over 30 - it was a disaster. Apparently, don't book this package over half term week as instructors are in short supply and the ones we had spoke very little English. If you have never skied before and go to this particular resort, book personal instruction.
